Vehicle Identification Number
All Vehicle Identification Numbers will be 17 digits long.
Example VIN#- 4RA CS122XFN000001
First three digits - World Manufacturer Identifier assinged by SAE. For Interstate it will always be 4RA. For Carry-On it will be 4YM.
4th and 5th digits- This will tell you type of trailer built by the manufacturer. All Interstate trailers will be CS. Carry-On may have a UL for utility trailer, DU for dump trailer, UE for equipment trailer, CL for enclosed cargo trailer.
6th and 7th digits- This will be length of the trailer.
8th digit- This represents the number of axles.
9th digit- This is called a "check digit". It doesn't represent anything about the trailer. It is simply a digit that is derived from the values of all the other values of the VIN# after it is plugged into a formula.
10th digit- The year the trailer was built. It will change from alpha to numeric in 2031.
